Meet Ace

I would like to introduce our newly adopted dog.... Ace.

Rebecca and a few other kids in the family have been asking for a dog for years. I was always very opposed and so was David. Too many kids to worry about adding a dog. Then for some strange reason I started thinking about my little dog when I was a kid and how much I loved having a dog. Suddenly I wanted a dog. Rebecca and I secretly started looking at dogs a few months ago. Finally I broached the subject with David and he was floored. He wanted to know why I wanted a dog. I thought about it a lot and decided that this is my mid-life crisis. I am trying to get back to the days of my childhood, happy and carefree playing with my dog. :) Besides, I don't have any little babies anymore to take care of so maybe this is filling the void.

To be honest, I don't know why I now want a dog when I haven't wanted one for so long. Anyway, David finally gave the OK as long as it didn't come in the house (he and some of the kids are allergic) and as long as it didn't bark and whine all the time. Rebecca and I went to the shelter to see what they had. We were looking for kind of a medium to small dog. We found Ace.... a big golden lab and he was so adorable that we went back the next day and picked him up. He is about 1 1/2 years old, very well-behaved, and NEVER barks. He has not barked once. He is really good with kids, loves playing fetch with them and running around with them. He's really obedient and as far as I can tell, he is almost the perfect dog. Ok, so I fell in love with him the minute I saw him but really, he is a good dog.

Those in the family who don't like dogs are tolerating him and being good sports, the rest of us are having a great time. We've got the garage all cleaned up and a nice area for him. We even have it heated right now so he won't get cold on these snowy nights. We can take him back within 30 days but so far I don't think that's going to happen. Hopefully all will keep going well and he'll remain in the family for years to come.

Woot! Welcome to the dog family club. Pets give back so much (besides mice/hamsters who can't really show affection back to their owners) Enjoy Ace!

And congrats to Josh!
