Memorial Day Weekend

The weekend started out in sort of a sad way. We attended the funeral for my Uncle Bill (my mom's brother). He had been quite sick and so he is probably much happier to be done with that trial but it is always sad to say goodbye. The funeral was very nice and it was great seeing all my cousins, most of whom I haven't seen since my grandfather died 20 years ago. We really need to get together in between funerals.

It was also nice to see my mom and dad who came just for the day. Mom broke her foot last week and so was in a cast and a wheelchair and lots of pain. So, she came out with dad just for the funeral and then flew back home.

Anyway, the following slide show kind of sums up the rest of our fun weekend. Enjoy.

Off With the Cast

On Monday we went up to Primary Children's to get x-rays again and see how Adam's leg was healing. The doctor said it looked great (that means it is better than it was but it is still not straight). But, good enough to take the cast off. The doctor said we could wait one more week but he didn't think it was worth it to make me drive all the way back up there next week. He felt like Adam would be very careful and it wouldn't be a problem.

Sure enough, he's still not walking on it but he does a little more with it all the time. Yesterday we went swimming and he moved it quite a lot and actually got some real exercise. He is very protective of it and I'm sure it is doing great without the cast. He does stand up a little bit on it but that is about it.

Adam can stand up for a minute if he holds onto a chair.

Notice how he is only using one leg to pedal, the other one he is holding carefully out of the way.

The interesting thing is that he seems to have come to a realization that we, as mortals, are not indestructable. The other night he was talking to me about his birthday. We started talking about his birth and I told him the whole story about his heart stopping, emergency c-section, priesthood blessing that healed him.... all stuff I've told him many times before. This time though he started sobbing and just clung to me for dear life. When I got him all settled down and I asked him why he was crying he said, "Did they cut you all the way around your body to get me out?" Poor little guy. I assured him it was a small cut and I couldn't feel it and I was so happy when he was born. It was all worth it. Then he started crying again and said, "Why did my heart stop? I'm afraid it will stop again?" Wow. Big worries for such a little guy. I guess this experience has really affected him.

Well the next night we heard a bunch of sirens. Adam said, "It is probably a car crash." Then he said, "I don't want you, or dad, or Jared, (pause) or Joshua since he can drive too to get in a car crash." Then he started crying again. I guess with time the trauma of the whole thing will subside.

Family Pics

Since Jared needed a picture of himself to submit with his mission papers, we decided to go up to the Draper Temple and take a few family pictures too. Adam was still in his cast and wasn't very patient, but we got a few cute ones.

Hogle Zoo

Last week I took Rachel, Rebecca and Adam to the zoo (Hogle Zoo).  The girls are still off-track from school and Adam was going crazy from the TV (or else I was).  Anyway, we had a great time and it was a beautiful day.  We saw lots of different animals but won't bore you with all the pictures.
Adam didn't want his picture taken, but Rebecca and Rachel smiled for the camera.
Adam consented to be photographed after he got an ice cream cone.

Mother's Day

Sorry I haven't posted for a while.  We've been a little busy with Adam in his cast.  He actually got the cast off a couple of days ago but I will get to that later.  Let's back up to Mother's Day.
Adam actually did get to have sponge baths which helped keep him somewhat clean.  He loved them.  How would it be to just lay there while someone else washed, rinsed, lotioned, rubbed, massaged, etc?  As you can see, he is quite happy and his hair is even combed.

Mother's Day was fabulous.  I didn't have to go into the kitchen at all.  Everyone cooked and cleaned up and it was great.  I even got to sleep in.  AWESOME!!
Adam is so glad to have a stroller to get out of the house in.
Rachel is our dessert and snack provider.  She is often baking cookies, muffins, cupcakes, etc.

Let's Go Fly A Kite

As you can see in the picture, Adam is getting out and about with the help of a friend's stroller. He loves to go outside and go for walks. The girls are off track for 3 weeks so they are around a lot to entertain him..... thank goodness. So, while they are playing, I spend time in my little garden. I got all the drip system installed this week so now we can finish planting the other 2 boxes next week.

Tulip Festival

I picked David up from work at lunch time and we went to Thanksgiving Point for the Tulip Festival. It was a fun date. We did take Adam with us since he is so bored and we figured we could push him around in the stroller to see everything. It's very hard to capture the beauty of it all with a camera. I wish I was a better photographer but here are a few pictures to just give you an idea.
